Stage: Maturing Disciple
Set: Characteristics of the Maturing Disciple

Trigger Topic
Observation
Practical Response
217 Purity
A maturing disciple will develop an attitude consistent with the heart of God and issuing into a life true to God in every respect.
List the patterns of your former life which have been retained in your new life with Christ. One by one, list the actions which you can do this week to put on the new as a replacement for the old. Find someone to hold you accountable to take off the old and put on the new.
218 Intensity
A maturing disciple will give himself unreservedly to the will and way of God.
Compare the attitudes and issues offered by the three would-be disciples described in Luke 9:57-62 to the attitudes and issues that challenge your experience of following after Jesus. Write down what Jesus would say to you on any of those topics. Talk to someone this week about what it would take for you to turn up the intensity to the level that Jesus expects. Ask God for a heart wholly devoted to Him. Identify inertia issues (what is holding you back). Disentangle yourself from complications. Simplify life.
219 Continuity
A maturing disciple will develop a consistent pattern of listening, accepting, and obeying the Word of God.
Discipline yourself this week to spend time in God's Word (reading, studying, and applying) at a specified time each day and stick to it regardless of the distractions that come up. Begin the habit of continuing in the steps of Jesus.
220 Dependency
A maturing disciple will reduce his dependency of his personal instincts, skills, and resources and increase his reliance upon God for all that he does.
Identify and list the "chariots and horses" of your life; Spend time confessing to God any tendency you have to depend (rely, trust) on "chariots and horses" instead of Him. Trust God to enable you for a specific assignment this week and monitor how it goes.
