Stage: Emerging Disciple
Set: Characteristics of an Emerging Disciple

Trigger Topic
Observation
Practical Response
110 Receptivity (open-minded, teachable, receptive)
An emerging disciple will demonstrate a genuine openness to receiving the truth of God and knowing Jesus.
Begin praying every day this week : "God, please reveal to me barriers in my life limiting my receptivity (openness) of your truth and life." Admit those barriers to God and tell Him of your eagerness to have Himself revealed to you. Ask God to fill up the hunger in your heart for Him.
111 Elasticity (flexible, willing to be stretched)
An emerging disciple will demonstrate a willingness to stretch beyond what has been the normal patterns of life and action by adopting a new pattern per the instruction of Jesus.
Talk to God this week about the areas of your life that you don't want God to change --- where you are stiff and rigid --- areas that you are content to leave just the way they are. Admit any stubbornness and ask God to increase your flexibility to the changes His Word will bring. Beware of preconceived notions that may box Jesus out. Pray for your life to be made new and different by Christ. Abandon rigidity as God gives a heart for things new.
112 Sincerity/Integrity
An emerging disciple will develop a heart for God that is not contrived or put on. The disciple will be true and genuine in his pursuits of Christ, first in his heart and then throughout his life.
Write a paragraph describing a sincere heart. Ask, "How is insincerity defeating my experience as an emerging disciple?" Ask, "Is what people see of me on the outside the same as what I amon the inside? Any masks? Any cover-up? Pray that God will remind you of insincerity (duplicity, hypocrisy) as it occurs and develop in you a heart and life that is true to Him.
113 Humility
An emerging disciple will demonstrate an awareness of the emptiness of his own ways compared to the fullness of the ways of God. He will understand himself correctly in the view of God.
Compile a list of resources available to you and upon which you depend. Ask yourself, "Do I depend more on these (maybe money, position, image, family, reputation) than on Jesus . Begin to thank God for your resources rather than priding yourself in them. Then, trust Him to supply all your needs and fill your life to abundance in ways that only He can do.
